Barbara Lee serves on the International Relations Committee (Subcommittees on Africa and Europe.) She is a leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS both at home and abroad, and has helped to secure over $5 million in funding for HIV/AIDS care and services in Alameda County, and $15 billion to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa and the Caribbean. Barbara Lee is also a leader on the Financial Services Committee’s Subcommittees on Housing and International Monetary Policy. She fights for affordable housing, one of the most urgent issues facing the Bay Area and the country. She helped secure a $34 million grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the City of Oakland. Through the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Lee convened a Western Regional Summit on Housing and Wealth Accumulation in which Fannie Mae contributed $500,000 to the Northern California Land Trust for low cost housing. Barbara Lee is currently the Co- Chair of the Progressive Caucus, Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Task Force on Global HIV/AIDS, Whip for the CBC and a member of the CBC Minority Business Task Force. Barbara Lee founded the Ronald V. Dellums Democratic (RVD) Club in May
of 2003. The RVD Club is inspired by the generations of freedom fighters
and activists who participated in the political, labor, civil rights,
environmental and other movements, and who held as their goal the betterment
of the lives of all people, and the advancement of equality as a core
principal of our democratic society. |
